Bread pudding


  1. 9 slices white bread
  2. 1 1/4 cup sugar
  3. 1 large can evaporated milk
  4. 2 cups milk
  5. 1 tsp vanilla
  6. 4 egg yolks
  7. 1/3 cup melted butter
  8. 4 egg whites


  1. Break bread into small pieces. Place in mixing bowl with 1 cup sugar, evaporated milk, 2 cups milk, vanilla, egg yolk, and melted butter. Mix well. Pour into 10 x 8 x 2 in size baking pan.

  2. Bake in preheated oven at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove and make meringue.

  3. Beat egg whites with 1/4 cup sugar until stiff. Cover pudding with meringue and rebake for 3 or 4 minutes until meringue is golden.

  4. Rum sauce recipe: in a double boiler, put one cup Carnation milk, 1 cup fresh milk, 1 cup sugar, and 3 tablespoons butter. When hot, dissolve 1 and 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch in a little water and add to hot milk. Stare into thick. Remove from fire, then add rum extract and three or four drops food coloring.
