Essentially Chipotle’s black bean recipe with added chipotle pepper in mole to spice it up. Great served as a side dish topped with crema and green onions. To make this into a black bean soup, reserve all of the liquid in the cans and blend half of the cooked beans.


  1. 2 cans black beans
  2. 1 teaspoon chili powder
  3. 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  4. pinch allspice
  5. 1 garlic clove, crushed and chopped
  6. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  7. 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  8. 1 chipotle pepper in mole, skinned, seeded, and minced


  1. Drain one of the two cans of black beans. Add both cans to a small pot and bring to simmer.

  2. Add spices, chopped garlic, and flesh of minced chipotle pepper in mole.

  3. Cook until garlic cooks through, beans soften, and liquid reduces.
