A weight-loss journey could be inspired by many different reasons, after trying “every diet out there” one woman lost an incredible three stone seven pounds, and credited her weight loss to a simple dieting plan – what was it?

Julie Whittingham, 60, struggled with her weight for most of her life and would regularly binge on snacks such as chocolate bars, biscuits, cake bars and sugary treats before overhauling her diet and dropping the weight.

“My weight problem affected my everyday life. I wouldn’t take my jacket off at work as I was very conscious of my weight gain!” she said.

The self-proclaimed “pro-dieter” felt down about her size 18 and didn’t make the crucial choice to lose weight until she went to a spa, as a birthday treat, where she felt “completely self-conscious and uncomfortable” in the process.

“Becoming 60 in March 2019 was the turning point for me in trying to overcome my unhealthy eating habits,” she said.

“Of course, I knew if I wanted things to change I would need to do something about it, but it wasn’t until I was at the spa (a lovely birthday surprise) completely self-conscious and uncomfortable in my size 18 swimsuit, that I had my lightbulb moment.”

Julie began her transformation weighing 14 stone and six pounds, but in just a short space of time, using a simple diet plan, she managed to lose three stone seven pounds and drop to a much healthier 10st 11lb weight.

Being a “pro-dieter” she knew that to lose the weight she would need to use the best option to drop the weight permanently.

“Over the years I think I tried every diet out there, and although I lost weight I always returned to my old eating habits and put the weight back on,” she revealed.

“Being what I would call a ‘pro dieter’ I knew that to lose weight this time a meal replacement diet plan was going to be my best option.”

With weekly support from a LighterLife weight loss counsellor and a variety of weekly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Mindfulness activities, Julie was able to overhaul her lifestyle and bad eating habits.

“Every week I would go along to my group and join in with the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) mindfulness activities. Through the sessions, I learnt that I’d been stress eating for the last two decades and although I knew how to lose weight I’d never been given the mental tools to keep it off,” she said.

She added: “One of the main changes for me was recognising that I could change the way I viewed food.

“I realised I was the one choosing what I ate – no one was forcing me! High-calorie foods gave me instant gratification, but the inevitable weight gain led to a loss of confidence and dampened my usual sparkle.”

Since losing the weight, she has regained her confidence and is much happier.
