Queen Letizia, 49, is considered one of the most elegant European royals and is admired by many for her looks and slim figure. What routine does the mother-of-two follow?

When Queen Letizia of Spain joined the Royal Family in 2004, some people suggested she was taking her diet and fitness too far.

However, she denied this saying to journalists: “I don’t have any problem. I eat a lot.

“This is how I am, it’s my body type,” she assured.

An insider and close friend explained: “Those who truly know her know this is part of her personality. Her goal is always to reach perfection or at least, try.

“If she exercises, she does it 100 percent. If she practices yoga, she wouldn’t stop until she knows as much as her instructor. She is like that with everything, with her body too. She watches what she eats to the extreme.”

But what kind of fitness routine does the Spanish monarch follow?

Another close friend explained: “The queen practices weight exercises every other day. She always recommends them when someone asks her. If the king is free, he would join her gym routine, too.”

The money Queen Letizia invests in her fitness and training comes from her annual salary as a Spanish royal.

That includes her personal trainer, yoga classes, zumba lessons and gym equipment among others.

For her royal services, the mother-of-two gets an annual salary of 139,610 euros.

But what about her diet?

Queen Letizia stays in good shape as she watches what she and her family eat.

She follows the Perricone diet which she combines with a healthy Mediterranean meal plan.

Doctor Perricone is one of the most famous nutritionists and many celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow or Kate Moss have followed his diet.

Queen Letizia reportedly supervises everything that is cooked and served in the Zarzuela Palace, the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family and even the meals her daughters Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia have at school.

She explained during an official visit to Torrejoncillos school in Cáceres, Spain, that her favourite food is vegetables, fruit, salads and purees which constitute 80 percent of Queen Letizia’s daily meals along with proteins, fish and eggs, kale and spinach.

The mother-of-two tries to avoid sugar as much as possible as well as ready meals, frozen food and pizzas.

All the pastries and sweets the Spanish royals have are reportedly homemade.

Queen Letizia doesn’t drink coffee, fizzy drinks or alcohol.

“She doesn’t really drink alcohol to be honest which is sometimes a problem for the toasts.

“King Felipe VI, however, is a wine connoisseur and has a private wine cellar in the palace,” an insider revealed.
