Darren McGrady, the former head chef of the Queen, shared a strange eating habit of Princess Anne when it comes to bananas. The former head chef of the Queen knows all about the strange eating habits and diets of the Royal Family because he served them personally for a number of years. Darren McGrady worked as head chef in the Buckingham Palace kitchens from 1982 to 1993.
He shared a preference of Princess Anne for eating bananas a particular way.
In an interview by TODAY, McGrady said that after dessert the Royal Family would usually eat fruit.
They would follow seasonal changes in the type of fruit offered.
Platters would often include bananas, apples, pineapples, peaches, grapes, and pears.

A royal favourite was bananas, however, Princess Anne was particularly partial to bananas being served a certain way.
McGrady said the Princess Royal preferred to eat her bananas “almost black.”
He said: “Princess Anne almost always preferred the bananas almost black – overripe – because they digested easier.”
What is even stranger is that due to tradition, none of the family could eat any food with their hands.
This meant most senior royals were forced to eat fruit using a knife and fork.
McGrady said: “They have a dessert knife and fork, a small plate and a finger bowl of water … which some guests have been known to drink.”
However, these are not the family’s only strange fruit-eating habits.
According to McGrady, Princess Diana, Prince William and Prince Harry had an unusual way of enjoying pears.
He said: “The purveyor would bring about 200 for us to choose the ripest by hand.”
McGrady continued, saying the royals “would slice off the top and eat it with a teaspoon like a boiled egg!”
He went on to say pineapples were “hollowed out”, sliced, and put back into the pineapple so they can be eaten with a knife and fork.
McGrady previously revealed the Queen enjoys four meals a day but only eats small portions at each.
The Queen is said to enjoy a cup of tea and biscuits, followed by cereal in the morning.
This is before moving on to a lunch of grilled fish with wilted spinach or courgettes.
The Queen is also partial to a simple grilled chicken with salad.
Then, in the late afternoon, the Queen will have an afternoon tea.
It‘s understood the Queen loves eating a steak at dinner, served well done.
