Intermittent fasting involves switching between eating and fasting in fixed periods. Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha shed fat whilst still enjoying her favourite foods and not spending endless hours in the gym.

The star documented her journey on Instagram and YouTube.

Nadia took to her YouTube channel during a Q&A, admitting: “Over the years I have tried every diet known to man, and all I ever did was diet, lose weight, and put on the weight.”

She also admitted she struggled with completely eradicating certain foods: “If someone says to me not to have something, I become completely obsessed with it.

“I don’t eat it but then I binge on it.”

Nadia’s solution to this ongoing issue, which had gone on “throughout her whole life”, was the 16/8 intermittent fasting method.

“A few years ago I discovered 16/8, which is a method of eating where you fast for 16 hours and eat for eight.”

She dispelled a common intermittent fasting myth: “People think you starve for 16 hours and then binge for eight, which would be incredibly unhealthy.

“All you’re doing is having your food, but in a shorter window of time, so that your body has the 16 hours to do the fat burning.”

Nadia referred to this method as a “very empowering way of eating”, unlike other diets which she had previously tried.

“Empowering, because I choose it, I’m not following any lists, I’m not following any restrictions, I’m not following loads of do’s and don’ts.”

One diet the TV personality is not a fan of is the Keto diet: “I’d rather stick hot needles in my eyes.”

BBC Good Food stated: “The aim of ketogenic diets is to send the body into a state of ‘ketosis’ by using a very strict low-carb diet.

“Foods that are generally allowed include high-fat meats, fish, oils, nuts, high-fat dairy such as cheese, and low-carb vegetables such as leafy greens.

“Unsurprisingly, reducing carb levels means cutting out bread, pasta, rice, and most conventional baked goods.

“However, achieving such low levels of carbs also means skipping legumes, root vegetables, most fruits and starchy veggies, such as potatoes.”

While this may work for some, Nadia finds that the 16/8 diet removes the “restrictive crazy stinking thinking” from the process.

While she had previously tried intermittent fasting, and found that her weight was “the most stable” it had ever been, she embarked on the journey again recently after a health scare.

“Recently, a doctor weighed me and told me I had to lose some weight for my health. My dad’s diabetic and I have high cholesterol.

“The reason I’m losing weight is for my health because I don’t think that the only thing you should be in life is slim.”

Referring to the “squidgy” bits on her tummy, Nadia stated: “I like it, it feels nice.”

She concluded: “16/8 works for me because I don’t have to cut out loads of foods, which I hate doing, and I cannot, cannot, cannot count a calorie or count a macro because life is too short.”
