The Fast 800 diet plan is split into two phases, including the first one where slimmers on the plan must consume just 800 calories each day. According to Dr Mosley, slimmers could lose up to 11lb in two weeks by eating this amount of calories a day. Stage two involves upping calorie intake for five days a week, while sticking to two days where 800 calories are eaten.

Speaking about his weight loss plan, Dr Mosley explained: “Eating well doesn’t just help you lose weight.

“Good food can boost your immune system, give you energy and even impact your mood.”

Dieters are encouraged to enjoy fewer processed and more home-cooked meals with plenty of vegetables and fruit.

This is because fruit and vegetables are low in calories whilst also being nutritious and filling.

The Fast 800 plan is mostly based around following a Mediterranean diet.

Slimmers following the plan are encouraged to eat healthy, whole foods including legumes, potatoes, fruit and vegetables as well as plenty of fish.

Sugar should be reduced or avoided and starchy carbs, such as white bread and white pasta, should not be eaten.

Those following the plan should also aim to eat a moderate amount of protein, up to 60g each day.

Wholegrain bread and unsaturated spreads are also permitted, but in moderation.

Other foods allowed include potatoes including both white and sweet potatoes as they can be a great source of potassium, vitamin C and fibre.

Dr Mosley went on: “The Mediterranean diet is the healthiest diet on the planet.

“There is this perception that Italian food is predominantly pasta and pizza, but that is not true.

“It’s actually packed with fruit, vegetables, nuts, olive oil and fish – all of which are good for you and have been proven to prevent dementia, strokes, cardiovascular disease, heart disease and even in some cases, been known to reverse type 2 diabetes.”

Extra virgin olive oil is also the preferred source of fat for those on the diet plan.

As well as cooking with olive oil, nuts such as almonds is also a great way to get healthy fats into your diet.

Speaking previously to Express.co.uk, Dr Mosley explained: “Snack on a small handful of nuts five times a week.

“The best types are almonds and pecans. Olive oil is rich in a substance called oleic acid, which, like eating fibre, has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect.

“So splashing olive oil on your salad or vegetables is really good.”

The Mediterranean diet is often favoured by slimmers as their chosen weight loss method due to its flexibility.

It can be incorporated into The Fast 800 plan by eating healthy, nutritious foods.
