Dr Michael Mosley often shares his weight loss tips with slimmers online as well as on television. He is the creator of The Fast 800 – a diet plan that helps people lose weight quickly.
According to Doctor Mosley, there are three “key” stages to a diet when it comes to weight loss.
These stages are included in The Fast 800, which the nutrition expert recommended slimmers starting out to follow.
He said: “Science shows that the most effective way to lose weight is by following a diet that incorporates intermittent fasting, time restricted eating, and the Mediterranean diet.
“Which is why I came up with The Fast 800.”
Before The Fast 800, Doctor Mosley developed the 5:2 diet, when “intermittent fasting was a radical idea, but one that really resonated”.
Although the Doctor has previously stressed that intermittent fasting isn’t for everyone, he said: “One thing that has become clear since then is that 800 [calories] appears to be a magic number when it comes to weight loss, based on studies which show people find it easier to follow, but they still get the same weight loss advantages.
“Studies suggest it’s the amount of weight you lose in the first month that predicts the long-term success of losing weight.
“For this reason, The Fast 800 diet recommends doing two weeks of sticking to 800 calories a day, every day, to kick-start your weight loss.”
Doctor Mosley went on to explain the diet in more detail, saying: “The Fast 800 is an online programme that uses the fundamental principles of intermittent fasting and time restricted eating, both underpinned with the Mediterranean diet for weight loss.”
But the Doctor highlighted that The Fast 800 is all about “flexibility”.
He continued: “You can tailor this diet to suit your needs, goals and motivation.
“There are three key stages to this diet: The Very Fast 800, The New 5:2 and the Way of Life.
“Each stage is designed to fit your desired agenda.
“All of the stages are fluid and you might find that you drift naturally between stages, depending on your personal circumstances and goals.”
Incorporating the Mediterranean diet into your lifestyle has never been easier as there are plenty of ingredients to choose from.
The diet contains plenty of vegetables, fruit, whole grains, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds, spices, and olive oil.
Other Mediterranean ingredients include oily fish, cheese, and full-fat yoghurt.
Doctor Mosley previously told Express.co.uk that it is one of the most beneficial diets of all, saying: “The Mediterranean diet is widely seen as the healthiest, most nutrient-rich diet on the planet.”
It not only contributes to weight loss, but also boosts the immune system.
Doctor Mosley added: “One of the best ways to improve the good microbes that live in our guts is through eating a Mediterranean diet packed with health promoting nutrients.
“The high fibre content is a great way to supercharge your microbiome.”
