The keto diet is high in fat, with followers getting at least 70 percent of their dietary calories from fat.

It helps followers lose weight by putting their body into an alternative metabolic state known as ketosis.

Ketosis is when the body burns fat as a primary source of fuel, instead of carbohydrates.

This causes rapid weight loss, and now many swear by the diet.

What is the best keto diet breakfast?

Breakfast is a meal that can be easily adapted to fit into the keto diet.

In fact, some Western breakfast staples are also popular keto foods.

Eggs, bacon, butter, avocado and coffee are all on the menu for breakfast.

Keto diet followers may also indulge in Greek yoghurt. Sausages and cheese also make the list.

Classic keto breakfasts include bacon and eggs, avocado with smoked salmon and egg.

For those with a sweet tooth, a chia pudding, made with chia seeds, full-fat milk and honey, is also a popular keto option.

Keto cereal is hard to come across, due to cereal’s high sugar content.

However, you can make your own. Various recipes advise making one with shredded coconut, flaked almost and flaxseeds.

Diet Doctor suggests breakfasts such as scrambled eggs, frittata with spinach, a mushroom omelet and eggs muffins.

Another hugely popular keto staple is bulletproof coffee. What is this?

Bulletproof coffee is black coffee with butter added. You can also use coconut oil, however.

Coconut oil is especially good for those on a keto diet, as it is easily converted into ketones by the body.

Tom Watson, former Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, has lost seven stone and has credited bulletproof coffee, in part, for this.

He told Good Morning Britain presenters: “This morning started with what the LA set call a bulletproof coffee.”

“It’s basically butter from grass-fed cows blended with fresh coffee – the idea is to get saturated fats into your diet so that you’re not as hungry during the day.

“Does it taste nice? It tastes like milky coffee, as you’d imagine, when you think about the source of butter.”
