It’s a tale as old as time: People cannot decide if pineapple belongs on pizza or not. Regardless, I’m in full support of the savory and sweet combo, as is Papa John’s, and the chain announced a partnership with Dole to source only the best pineapple for their pizza pies. Of course, because the internet is the internet, people were divided on the announcement.
“At Papa John’s we believe that pineapple belongs on pizza,” said SVP of Product Innovation at Papa John’s Paul Fabre in a press release: “Partnering with Dole makes sense because there is nothing more important or vital to our business and to earning our customers’ trust than providing high-quality food.”
Dole pineapple tidbits will be added on top of the Papa John’s super Hawaiian pizza, which features toppings like Canadian bacon, hickory-smoked bacon, a three-cheese blend, and the Papa John’s signature sauce all on the original fresh, never-frozen, six-ingredient dough.
It’s no surprise that people on Twitter dot com have opinions on pineapple pizza considering it’s a debate reignited on the platform almost monthly. In 2018, Papa John’s tweeted out a survey asking followers if pineapple belonged on pizza and the results were an even split.
Once and for all, is pineapple acceptable on a pizza?
Maybe we’ll never know peace on the subject, but at least we can all agree that kiwi on pizza is way worse…right?
