Fast-food restaurant Wendy’s is planning to open stores in the UK, with plans for sites in Oxford and Reading. This has excited burger fans, with Wendy’s joining stores like Shake Shack, Five Guys and Taco Bell in branching out from US shores.

As well as Oxford and Reading, Big Hospitality, has said London is also being considered for a Wendy’s location.

A spokesperson for Wendy’s told Big Hospitality: “I can confirm that we will be opening a Wendy’s restaurant in Oxford.

“Our first location is in Reading and we are exploring additional opportunities in the London area.

“The brand is excited to enter the UK with company-owned and operated restaurants this year, and we are looking for franchisees to grow with us across the United Kingdom.”

Wendy’s currently operates in 30 countries with more than 6,700 outlets.

Previously the fast-food chain had 10 stores across the UK, but opted to close these in 2000.

Following a pop-up in London in 2017, the chain has decided to return to Britain.

This has excited fans no end, with many asking for the chain to open restaurants in more locations across the country.

What does Wendy’s serve?

Wendy’s is perhaps most famous for its chicken nuggets, which come in both spicy and crispy varieties.

The nuggets are served in both 10 piece, six-piece and four-piece portions, with the options to make these into a meal.

Also on the menu are chicken sandwiches, with the Classic Jalapeño popper sandwich, Pretzel Bacon Pub Chicken sandwich and Crispy Chicken BLT fan favourites.

Burgers are also stars, with a whopping triple patty named Dave’s Triple, a bacon-filled burger known as the Baconator and the classic Pretzel Bacon Pub Cheeseburger.

However, these burgers have an iconic square shape, which many have been looking forward to tucking into later this year.

And like fellow fast-food chain McDonald’s, Wendy’s also offers breakfast options.

In the US you can grab a sausage, egg and Swiss croissant, breakfast Baconator and even a maple bacon and chicken croissant.

Also a fan favourite are Wendy’s chocolate and vanilla Frostys, which controversially some opt to dip their fries in.

Drinks-wise there is a range of flavoured lemonades and the classic fizzy drinks like Fanta, Coca Cola and Sprite.

Whether all of these options will be available in the UK remains to be seen, as fast-food menus tend to vary based on which country they are in.

Some favourites may not make it across the pond, while the chain may also launch UK only foods – we will have to wait and see!

Fans of Wendy’s have taken to social media to express their delight at the restaurant coming back to the UK.

One wrote on Twitter: “Wendy’s is coming to the UK. this is the news i love to hear”.

Another said: “Wendy’s coming to the uk has actually made 2021 that slight bit better”.

While a third said: “@Wendys thank you for deciding to return to the UK can’t wait for your new branches to open…. #wendys”.
