McDonald’s is updating the Big Mac, McDouble, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, and hamburger, the fast food brand has announced.

In what it calls “small but tasty improvements” the brand will be changing the way sandwiches are prepared, which it claims will improve quality.

The fast food chain says buns will be “softer” and more “pillowy”.

The way patties are grilled will also be changed meaning that each one is seared better, so the company says.

A new process will also mean burgers have “hotter, meltier cheese”, McDonald’s announced.

A major update will be made to the way onions are served in the burger, meaning a “juicier, caramelized flavor”.

Big Mac fans may or may not be pleased to hear there will be more Big Mac sauce in their burger, depending on how saucy they like their buns.

Currently updated burgers are being sold in West Coast chains including Seattle and Los Angeles, as well as in other countries across the globe such as Australia, Canada, and Belgium.

They will be rolled out across the entire nation in 2024.

The recipe for trialed by a writer at People, who said: “The difference between the OG double cheeseburger and the new and improved version are actually huge.

“The shiny bun is so inviting and the burger itself has a great grilled taste like it came off of your own barbecue.”

She went on: “The addition of the extra Mac Sauce and the fragrant new bun make it eat like a real, messy pub burger instead of your run-of-the-mill drive-through.”

Various new items have been announced by the brand for 2024, including the new Strawberry Shortcake McFlurry.

The treat amalgamates creamy vanilla soft serve with strawberry-flavoured clusters and crispy, buttery shortbread cookies. It will be available for a limited time in stores.

UK McDonald’s has had a menu update too. The Chicken Big Mac is back, as are fan favourites Mozzarella Dippers, the Cadbury Creme Egg, and the Cadbury Caramel Egg McFlurry.

The Mighty McMuffin is back too, stuffed with sausage, egg, bacon, cheese, and ketchup or brown sauce, and a new Steakhouse Stack burger is on the menu.

It features two patties, cheddar cheese, crispy onions, red onions, lettuce and a peppercorn sauce.
