A former McDonald’s employee who worked at the chain for a decade took to social media to share their revelation.

Posting on a Reddit thread, the forum user who goes by the name JB4T5gamemusic wrote: “I worked in fast food for a decade (McDonald’s) and quit about seven years ago. Here are a few insights/ secrets.”

It is a known fact that in all branches owned by the globally renowned franchise, some menu items are cooked ahead of orders and kept warm.

While this is standard practice, the worker claimed that food isn’t technically fresh when people receive their orders.

They wrote: “Depending on the store, some foods may sit for a while in the warming cabinets.”

The Reddit user continued: “If you want it as fresh as possible, ask for meat and fries with no salt.

“They [McDonald’s staff] have to salt and season every piece of beef that crosses the grill and every fry that takes a dunk in the fryer.

“If you ask for it without salt, it must be cooked fresh (for the meat, on a freshly cleaned grill.)”

In a statement on their website, McDonald’s claimed: “McDonald’s burgers are made of 100 percent ground beef, formed into hamburger patties, and then quickly frozen at our suppliers to seal in great fresh flavour.

“We add salt and pepper to our burgers when they are cooked on the grill at our restaurants to bring out all that great beef taste.”

When it comes to seasoning the fries, their policy is as follows: “When our suppliers partially fry our cut potatoes, they use an oil blend that contains beef flavouring… The fries are cooked in our kitchens, seasoned with salt, and served hot to you.”

The former fast-food chain worker revealed another insider tip for lovers of the American franchise when ordering fries.

They said: “If fries are over seven minutes old out of the fryer, they must be discarded. This is why if you wait till you get home to eat them, they suck unless you live close.”

To get the best of their trademark potato snacks, the employee suggested asking for them freshly cooked and eating them first.
