Today is Shrove Tuesday, or pancake day, which means many Britons will tuck into a sweet treat.

Whether you prefer traditional or unusual toppings, there are recipes out there for everyone.

Marks and Spencer have shared a selection of pancake recipes online including Gin & Tonic Pancakes and savoury Cheesy Mushroom Pancakes.

However, it was a post on their Facebook page that caused an uproar among some fans.

Marks and Spencer shared a video which showed budding chefs how to make Percy Pig pancakes.

The post read: “On your marks… FLIP! Our first ever Percy Pig Dessert sauce is here!

“Serve it on Percy-style pancakes with our ready-made pancakes filled with fresh strawberries, Percy sweets and jazzie sprinkles.

“How will you decorate yours? #Thisisnotjust a pancake idea, this is a Percy Pig pancake idea!”

The post spark controversy and received 492 shares and a whopping 3,200 comments.

Percy Pig sweets are one of Marks and Spencer’s most popular treats but the thought of adding it to pancakes is too much for some.

One fan said: “Sorry M&S but pancakes should have sugar and lemon on nothing else.”

“What’s wrong with pancakes with sugar a lemon juice. Looks so sickly,” a second added.
