At this point in 2020, many of us are desperate for new and novel treats to taste. Though basketball and baseball are back soon, it’s also safe to say that we’re also a bit starved for any event where there are winners and losers (outside of the high-stakes world of presidential politics).
So what do you get when you combine those two things? Well, it might look something like Krispy Kreme’s competition to figure out which one of the three Reese’s doughnuts it’s released over the past three years should earn the right to stay on its menu and earn the title of “Greataste [sic] Reese’s Doughnut of All Time”
Starting Friday, July 24 (they sure love doing things on Fridays), fans can pick up one of these three peanut butter and chocolatey doughnuts, weighing in with creative reviews on social media to help Krispy Kreme declare a winner.

According to a press release, the three doughnuts up for debate include the Classic Reese’s Doughnut Doughnut (a Reese’s Peanut Butter Kreme-filled doughnut topped with Hershey’s chocolate icing, peanut butter chips, and a Reese’s chocolate peanut butter sauce), the Reese’s Outrageous Doughnut (a chocolate doughnut with Hershey’s chocolate and Reese’s peanut butter icing icing, Reese’s Pieces, and a salted caramel drizzle), and the Reese’s Original FiIlled Chocolate Lovers Doughnut (filled with that Reese’s Peanut Butter Kreme and adorned with both Hershey’s and Reese’s icing). Essentially, any informed voter is going to be eating a lot of peanut butter and chocolate before casting their vote.
In what’s perhaps a chilling sign of things to come, Krispy Kreme has decided that quantity of votes shouldn’t dictate electoral outcomes. Instead, fans “can share their greatest, most creative review of their favorite Reese’s doughnut to help decide which will be declared the Greataste [sic] Reese’s Doughnut of All Time.” That involves posting on social media using #TheGreataste and #KrispyKreme while also tagging @KrispyKreme. Not sure how many characters you’ll have left to work with at that point if you’re tweeting. Maybe opt for a haiku?
Regardless, a winning doughnut will be declared in August, at which point it will become a permanent fixture on the Krispy Kreme menu. Maybe once that happens, they’ll go back to spelling greatest normally.
